Having Trouble with Bluray Movie?

I rented a Bluray (Xmen Origins: Wolverine) from Blockbuster tonight. When played it, I got through the menu, advertisements, and the 20th Century Fox logo at the actual beginning of the film, but as soon as the Marvel logo comes up the movie goes all pixilated. Colorful lines and “crunchy” static covers the screen. The audio stays intact but there is no comprehensible video. I returned the video and picked another copy only to have the same exact thing happen. I am now brainstorming trying to find a solution. I played a different bluray with zero issues. I am using HP Media Smart. Any suggestions?

Which Bluray player is better?

I’m trying to buy my mom a bluray player for Christmas, but i’m only trying to spend about $150 tops. So I’ve come to my conclusion with the Samsung BD-P2500, or the LG model BD300. I chose these two because of their Netflix capabilities (originally i was just going to buy a normal one, but then i found out about the netflix capabilities[which my mom would love]). I’ve been reading reviews, and I’m a little skeptical about both machines. The LG machine is said to have a problem with regular DVDs after firmware updates, which is a problem because we have many old DVDs. The Samsung player is said to also have compatability problems, and possibly not able to read all bluray movies (?)

Bottom line: I need to buy one of these and soon because of Christmas coming, but I need a true review from someone who owns these machines, or knows about them well. Please, any comments would be nice. Thank you
I just found out about the Samsung Blu-ray Player, BD-P1590. Any thoughts on that one as well?

Is a bluray player a waste if one doesn’t yet have an HD TV?

I currently have a Proscan 27″ CRT TV (proscan is/was the upscale brand by RCA). I found a deal on a sony bluray player and I will eventually be upgrading my tv to an HDTV but my question is if I connect a bluray player to a standard def TV will the picture quality be worse than if I had my regular DVD player plugged in. I guess I’m wondering if the bluray player will only transmit in HD1080p and will somehow overload the signal processor of my standard def TV and make the image look like crap.

thanks.

Bluray resolution vs my 1024 x 576 native projector?

I have a movie projector with 1024×576 native resolution. I play DVD’s with it. Regular TV seems to grainy so I don’t do it. Would Blu Ray player make any difference? Is the projector’s resolution high enough to make a distinction between DVD and BluRay or would I have to replace my projecor with a higher resolution TV or another projector to get some benefits from a bluray upgrade? And what is a native 1024×576 anyways? what is native about it?
And can someone please tell me what the resolution is for a standard US DVD vs BluRay? I want to see where my projector stands in between…

how to get bluray player audio through my home theatre system?

i have a sony lcd tv, a panasonic dvd home theatre system and a HD set-top box. Right now, i have component cables connect the HD set-top box and the dvd home theatre to my tv. The audio from the HD box goes to the dvd home theatre “AUX” input (red and white cables). Thats the only input there is. I am buying a bluray player, how can i get the audio from that to go through my home theatre? if they were cheaper, id just buy a Bluray home theatre system to replace the dvd one! Also do you think i would notice any difference switching from component to HDMI or DVI?
Thanks!

Bluray audio settings question on a Samsung BD-P1500 – Bitstream (Re-encode) or PCM ?

I have a Samsung BD-P1500 bluray player and I love the video quality. However I have a question about the audio aspect.
I have a Sony 5.1 home theater that decodes both DTS and Dolby Digital. It does not have any of the “new” codecs such as TrueHD or DTS-HD.Seeing as I do not intend to upgrade my audio system anytime soon I want to know which audio setting is better for me.

Both PCM and Bitstream re-encode have the player “decode” the signal from the disc and then export (respectively) as a PCM signal or a DTS signal.

According to Samsung, Bitsream re-encode is better for people with a receiver that decodes DTS but they also state that it will have a possibly lower quality than PCM. They also explain in the owner’s manual that PCM is good if your receiver decodes neither DTS nor Dolby.

If any knowledgeable person can explain this any further and give any advise, that would help a lot.
I am using an optical connection from my player to my receiver

hd DVD vs bluray?

with hd dvd soon to unvail hd discs with the storage capacity of upto 150gb compaired to blurays 51gb
and hd dvd out selling bluray 3 to 1 in europe
yet sales figures of bluray outselling hd at 2to1 in usa
the sales figures of bluray owners buying 0.30 movies per blurayplayer
sales figures of hd dvd owners buying on avarage of 6.3 movies per hd player brought
is it just playstation 3 that is keeping the bluray movie format alive even though they do not buy movies?
and will the massive influx of hd dvd players and xbox hd player add ons with a ratio of 6.3 movies per unit sold spell the end of blu ray?
what do you think?
HP who had been a big Blu-Ray supporter and dominates the Media Center PC market, introduced a $100 HD DVD upgrade for their PCs (Sony’s Blu-Ray VIAO solution was just dropped to $749). The impact of this last move is still too early to measure but there is no comparably priced (not even close) solution using Blu-Ray. with this shift in support by hewlitt packard and microsoft being the major backer of hd dvd is it all finally over can we all buy hd dvd and be happy?

Why does this Bluray set say it is DVD format?

Hello! I am purchasing Planet Earth on Bluray. I prefer it to be narrated by Sigourney Weaver. I really do not like David Attenborough’s voice.

My question is, why does this version say that it is a DVD and a DVD set if it is for Bluray players?

I want Bluray so that I can get the best quality picture possible. Is this version what I want?

Here is a link to what I am looking at so you can see why I am confused:

http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Earth-DVD-Set-Blu-ray/dp/B001NPYSC2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1235767022&sr=1-2
His voice is not soothing to me and I find it quite distracting to hear British pronunciations of words.

None of it is “dumbed down”. I’ve heard both versions and it is the same. On that note, I am not interested in any “Dumb American” remarks. I haven’t been disrespectful and you shouldn’t be either.
