Is it true Sony will release a firmware update that will correct the grainy picture on Blu Ray movies on ps3? February 28
Bones00 asked:
If this is the case, I can’t wait to see what blu ray movies will look like in crystal clear picture. I have the whole set up (HD LCD tv, HDMI cable and PS3) and didn’t think I had anything out of place to cause this grainy picture.
I’m using a Monster HDMI cable. My output resolution is 1080p. Could it be another setting that I need to fix?

The PS3 is updated a lot. It’s up to version 1.93, but I don’t know if they’ve specifically addressed a Blue Ray problem.

Many people use a PS3 as a home theatre blu-ray player and claim great results.
If you were using a component cable I’d suspect it was down-res’ing the video, but if you have an HDMI cable this shouldn’t happen. Assuming the HDMI cable is good — and they usually work or don’t work — I suspect if you are getting a grainy picture you have a setting that is downscaling (or limiting) the resolution of the video to 480. Rather than hope a firmware update will fix the problem, check the output resolution setting for the PS3.
