Do you need to purchase any cables seperately when you buy a Blu-ray player?

shismerf asked:

If you have a 1080p television and then you buy a Blu-ray player, do you need to buy any HDMI cables seperately or are they already included with the Blu-ray player?

You need an HDMI cable if you want to view your movies in High Definition. Check the box to see if it comes with a cable. If not, you have to buy one separately.

You will probably get some cables, but they may be of a poor quality. If you are spending thousands of dollars on Blu-ray, a good screen, good sound etc, don’t connect them all up with bell wire!

Check the box — it should say — but you will be pretty safe to assume an HDMI cable is NOT included.

BUT, don’t feel you have to buy the expensive cable the saleperson will tell you that you need. Read the article at the link. Monoprice HDMI cables (~$10) are perfectly adequate for 1080p up to 10′-15′. For longer distances or if you are really fussy check out Bluejean cables (2nd link)
